After an early morning wake up call from the bloomin' cockerels. It was time for a last breakfast, seemingly fish soup for most of us!!
We then bade farewell to our hosts.

For us it was a sad morning, though we had struggled to communicate fully we had learnt a little about each other and their kindness and concern was incredible. Our family were lovely people and they did shed a little tear as we left. We were all rather moved.

We jumped back in our pick up trucks ad headed back to Nan to catch the local bus to Lampang.
We had been warned that this would be a long day of travelling, on some very basic transport. I envisaged a local bus packed with chickens with people perched on the roof. Pok efficiency ensured us seats on a comfortable air conditioned bus, with water and biscuits provided, not exactly roughing it!
Our next swap over was at a another bus, we had been warned that it would be hectic that we would need to quickly get our own big bags off the bus and then arrange a hire van transfer to Mae Sot. Once again Pok organised things so that it was simpler than the average British bus journey. We transferred to small minibuses, we got three instead of 2 as Pok politely pointed out that Western people are bigger and we'd need more space.
As Katie correctly pointed out we arrived at a nice western style hotel in Lampang and the girls enjoyed some nice western food for lunch.
Not to be a pedant or anything, but....
ReplyDeleteAfter leaving the homestay, we took a nice 'public' bus to Lampang, where we visited the Elephant Sanctuary and a market. We then stayed in a corporate style hotel and lunch was our first Western meal for a long time!
The next day we began our epic journey, via varied transport, to Mae Sot and then along the Sky Road to Umpang.
p.s. my mum asks if you have the 3 cds of photos that she left at reception for you?
Quite right Katie, thanks for pointing that out.
ReplyDeleteI think we have now corrected it.
How could we miss the elephant sanctuary out !
Photos received with thanks.
