We first visited the "recycling centre" which involved processing some of the elephant dung to make paper. The process was explained and was surprisingly odour free !
The girls had a go at making some paper, getting there hands all wet spreading out the sludgy paper mix over mesh screens and then stacking them for drying. Toady's colour was black.
The gift shop was well stocked, and I suspect most parents have received a dung product of sorts ! If not then it can be ordered online see http://www.elephantdungpaper.com/ for more details.
Next we went to the sanctuary itself and we saw a few of the elephants which where being cared for. Some of the treatment and injuries that the elephants have endured is quite shocking and was not pleasant viewing. The sanctuary therefore is doing wonderful work under very difficult circumstances.
Having seen the work the hospital does the girls decided to make a personal donation to the foundation. We met the founder of the project who kindly received the donation from the girls of Teesside High.

After the trip to the elephants, shopping was in order, we stopped at a small market which sold all manner of trinkets and local goods.

The girls shunned the crickets and bought more conventional wares !
End of a busy day so back to the hotel for another lovely Thai rice meal !
