Day 5 First Trek and off to the Homestay

In Nan, we join our guide Rambo again (who took us on the bike tour yesterday) for our first trek in the hills around Nan.

The weather was stifling and our first experience of muddy trails brought much consternation.

Lunch was rice (of course) and was taken to go !

All in all it was about 12k and involved some quite big hills, we learnt that Pok was diplomatic with the truth. Only one more hill was cited a few times. The girls all learn fast.

Note the concrete road in the background this was our last climb to the vehicles, and was almost the undoing for some.

The temperature was over 37degree 100F in the shade !!! This was a real baptism of fire, made a lot easier with Rambo and his constant joking, tricks and jungle games. He made boats, darts and toys with leaves, and even blew bubbles from the sap of a tree.

In the afternoon we set off for to the small village outside Nan for the first of our nights.
We where all split into groups, a staff member with each and taken to a host family.
The conditions where basic but an army of smiling children and incredibly friendly families met us.

More later - Internet may be cheap in Thailand but its sooooo SSSLLLLLOOOOOWWW
